Trying to figure out what to watch on Shudder? This list got out of control FAST. 😂 Unlike Netflix or Hulu, Shudder is basically built for horror fans, so there are a LOT of movies on there worth watching. Instead of listing everything in the catalog, I went through and picked out the movies I actually recommend – plus a couple that horror fans seem to love even though they weren’t really for me.
There’s everything here from haunted houses and found footage to slashers, monsters, body horror, international horror and some seriously disturbing movies.
So if you’re staring at Shudder wondering where to start, here are some of the best horror movies on Shudder right now.
Quick note: Streaming libraries change frequently and availability can vary by location. This list is based on what’s available on Shudder in the U.S. as of October 2026.
Found Footage, Haunted Houses and Things Going Very Wrong
If shaky cameras, creepy buildings and people making terrible decisions are your thing, start here.
Hell House LLC
A documentary crew investigates a haunted-house attraction where opening night ended with multiple unexplained deaths.
What happened inside?
Nothing good.
Hell House LLC is one of my favorite found-footage haunted attraction movies and definitely worth watching if you’ve somehow missed it.
Grave Encounters
A paranormal reality-show crew locks themselves inside an abandoned psychiatric hospital overnight to film an episode.
You already know this isn’t going to end well.
Grave Encounters is one of those found-footage movies that gets increasingly crazy as the night goes on. If abandoned hospitals already creep you out, this will not help.
1408
John Cusack plays a skeptical writer who investigates supposedly haunted locations and decides to spend the night in room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel.
The hotel manager repeatedly tells him not to.
He does it anyway.
Samuel L. Jackson literally tries to warn this man and he STILL checks in. 😂
This is a great supernatural movie based on a Stephen King story and one I’ve always found really entertaining.
Host
A group of friends holds a séance over Zoom.
During lockdown.
Because apparently regular Zoom calls weren’t stressful enough.
Host is short, clever and surprisingly effective for a movie that takes place almost entirely through computer screens.
My sister watched this and couldn’t fall asleep LOL.
The Others
Nicole Kidman lives with her two children in a huge, dark mansion where the curtains stay closed and increasingly strange things begin happening.
This movie is atmospheric, creepy and beautiful.
If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend going in without reading too much about it.
Caveat
A man takes a strange job watching a psychologically troubled woman in an isolated house.
There’s just one small detail.
He has to wear a harness chained to part of the house.
That should probably have been the first clue to leave.
Caveat is weird, claustrophobic and VERY creepy.
Haunt
A group of friends decides to visit an extreme haunted attraction on Halloween night.
The actors aren’t supposed to actually hurt you.
Supposed to.
If you love haunted houses during spooky season, Haunt is basically the nightmare version of going to one.
I literally play this one in the background sometimes as I do chores because I love it.
The Cellar
A woman searches for her daughter after she mysteriously disappears inside their new home.
Her investigation eventually leads to something much stranger than your typical haunted-house situation.
If you like creepy houses with mysteries hidden underneath them, give this one a try.
The Pact
After her mother’s death, a woman returns to her childhood home and begins experiencing increasingly disturbing supernatural events.
It’s a slow-burning haunted-house mystery that gets creepier as the story unfolds.
Supernatural Horror, Demons and Things You Should NOT Summon
These movies are for the nights when you’d like to become suspicious of every dark corner of your house.
The Dark and the Wicked
Two siblings return to their family’s isolated farm as their father is dying.
Then it becomes increasingly obvious that something evil is there with them.
This one is DARK.
Not fun spooky. Not cute spooky.
Just bleak, creepy supernatural horror.
Terrified
People in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires begin experiencing horrifying supernatural events inside their homes.
And I mean HORRIFYING.
Terrified has some genuinely creepy moments and is absolutely worth watching if you want something that might actually freak you out.
Late Night with the Devil
A Halloween-night episode of a 1970s late-night talk show goes horribly wrong when the host brings an allegedly possessed girl onto the program.
I love the concept of this one.
It’s presented like a lost television broadcast and gradually gets more and more disturbing.
The Vigil
A man agrees to sit vigil over the body of a deceased member of his former Orthodox Jewish community.
He soon realizes he may not be alone in the house.
This is a good supernatural pick if you want something with a different cultural perspective than the usual Catholic-exorcism horror movie.
Anything for Jackson
An elderly couple kidnaps a pregnant woman as part of an attempt to bring their dead grandson back.
Which is already an extremely bad plan.
Unfortunately, their ritual doesn’t go exactly as expected.
Anything for Jackson is creepy, strange and one of those movies where everything just keeps getting worse.
Oddity
A blind woman who deals in cursed and haunted objects investigates the murder of her twin sister.
She also brings along an incredibly creepy wooden mannequin.
Because apparently the situation wasn’t unsettling enough already.
Oddity is one of me and my husband’s favorite kinds of horror – supernatural, mysterious and weird.
When Evil Lurks
Two brothers discover that a demonic infection is spreading through their rural community.
And this movie does NOT play nice.
When Evil Lurks is brutal, disturbing and very willing to go places most horror movies won’t.
If you like demonic horror and don’t mind some seriously dark material, definitely watch it.
Insidious
If you love horror you probably already seen this one… but if not, definitely check it out!
A family’s son mysteriously falls into a coma, and they eventually discover that the problem isn’t medical at all.
Something very dangerous has attached itself to him.
Insidious is one of those modern supernatural horror movies that pretty much everyone should see at least once.
Baghead
A woman inherits a pub and discovers something very unusual living underneath it.
For a price, this creature can apparently allow people to communicate with the dead.
Obviously, there are consequences.
There are ALWAYS consequences.
This is one of our faves!
The Wretched
I felt like this one was a fun time!
A teenager begins to suspect that something supernatural has taken over the woman living next door.
Think witchy horror mixed with a suburban mystery.
This one’s an easy watch if you want creepy without going full nightmare fuel.
Hellbender
A teenage girl living in isolation with her mother begins discovering some very strange things about her family’s history – and herself.
Hellbender is witchy, indie and unusual.
If you like folk horror and coming-of-age stories mixed together, check it out.
I’ve probably watched this one like 5 times just cause I keep showing it to people lol.
Slashers, Killers and Survival Horror
Sometimes the monster is just another person.
Which honestly might be worse.
Hunter Hunter
A family living remotely in the wilderness begins tracking what they believe is a dangerous wolf.
Then they discover that something much worse may be nearby.
This one gets DARK.
And that ending…
Yeah.
Clown in a Cornfield
This is a FUN one.
A teenager moves to a struggling small town where Frendo — the town’s creepy clown mascot — starts killing people.
A clown.
In a cornfield.
This movie understood the assignment.
It’s a fun modern slasher and a great spooky-season watch.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
One of the classics.
A group of young people traveling through rural Texas encounters a very disturbed family that includes a certain chainsaw-wielding man named Leatherface.
The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre still feels grimy, chaotic and uncomfortable decades later.
If you’re a horror fan and somehow haven’t watched it yet, fix that.
In a Violent Nature
This one takes the traditional slasher formula and flips the perspective.
Instead of spending most of the movie with the victims, we follow the killer as he slowly makes his way through the wilderness.
It’s deliberate, brutal and definitely different from your normal slasher.
Some people hate it tho – but I found it intersting.
Would You Rather
A group of desperate people attends a dinner party where they’re offered the chance to win life-changing money.
All they have to do is play a game.
Unfortunately, the game is extremely sadistic.
This one gets increasingly nasty, and Jeffrey Combs is fantastic at being horrible.
The Clovehitch Killer
A teenager begins to suspect that his seemingly normal father may be connected to a string of unsolved murders.
This is more slow-burn thriller than traditional slasher, but the idea behind it is disturbing enough on its own.
Revenge
A woman’s weekend getaway turns horrifying after she’s assaulted and left for dead.
She survives.
And then she comes back.
Revenge is stylish, violent and extremely satisfying if you’re in the mood for exactly what the title promises.
Ruin Me
A woman joins her boyfriend at an extreme horror camping experience where participants are supposed to be scared for fun.
Then it becomes increasingly difficult to tell what’s part of the game and what’s actually dangerous.
Perfect premise for anyone who has ever wondered why people voluntarily attend extreme haunted attractions. 😂
Extreme, Brutal and Seriously Messed-Up Horror
Maybe don’t watch these while eating. Or do. I can’t tell you what to do!
The Sadness
A viral outbreak causes infected people to act on their most violent and depraved impulses.
And this movie goes HARD.
The Sadness is extremely graphic, extremely violent and absolutely not for everyone.
You’ve been warned.
Faces of Death
The 2026 Faces of Death reimagines the infamous cult movie for the internet age.
A website content moderator begins finding increasingly disturbing videos that appear to recreate deaths from the original film and starts wondering whether she’s looking at fake footage or real murder.
If you’re familiar with the reputation of the original Faces of Death, this new version is an interesting modern take on the same question of what we’re willing to watch.
Bone Tomahawk
This starts out looking like a Western.
Then it becomes something much more horrific.
Kurt Russell leads a group searching for kidnapped townspeople, and the rescue mission takes them into extremely dangerous territory.
There’s a scene in this movie that anyone who has watched it knows EXACTLY what I’m talking about.
Contracted
A young woman wakes up after a party believing she’s contracted an STD.
Except whatever is happening to her body is much, much worse.
Contracted is gross body horror that becomes increasingly disturbing as her condition progresses.
The Ugly Stepsister
Imagine Cinderella as grotesque body horror.
A young woman becomes desperate to change her appearance so she can compete with her beautiful stepsister for the prince.
The things she puts herself through are… a lot.
If body horror makes you squeamish, maybe skip this one.
Baskin
I love this one!
A group of police officers responds to a call and ends up descending into what can only be described as hell.
Literally or figuratively?
You decide.
Baskin is surreal, gross, disturbing and DEFINITELY not a casual movie-night pick.
Stopmotion
A stop-motion animator becomes consumed by the disturbing movie she’s creating.
Eventually the line between her art, her mind and reality starts breaking down.
The stop-motion imagery makes this movie especially unsettling.
Very weird.
Very creepy.
Sci-Fi, Monsters and Creature Horror
Aliens, parasites and things lurking somewhere they absolutely should not be.
Sputnik
A Soviet cosmonaut returns from space after a mysterious accident.
Unfortunately, he did not return alone.
A psychologist is brought in to evaluate him and discovers that an alien organism has attached itself to the cosmonaut.
If you like Alien-style sci-fi horror, definitely give this one a watch.
Superdeep
Scientists investigating a secret Soviet research facility discover that something very dangerous is growing deep underground.
Russian sci-fi horror + underground laboratory + biological nightmare?
I’m in.
Sea Fever
A marine biology student joins the crew of a fishing vessel and encounters a mysterious organism in the water.
Soon, the crew realizes something has infected them.
If you like isolated creature horror where everyone is trapped together and doesn’t know who is infected, this one’s worth watching.
The Descent
One of my favorite claustrophobic horror setups EVER.
A group of women goes cave exploring and becomes trapped underground.
And getting lost inside the cave isn’t even the worst thing down there.
If you’re claustrophobic, good luck. 😂
Come True
A teenager with recurring nightmares joins a sleep study.
That sounds harmless enough.
It is not.
Come True is dreamy, strange sci-fi horror that feels like you’re trapped inside someone else’s nightmare.
Weird, Psychological and Slow-Burn Horror
These are the ones that are more about atmosphere, dread and making you uncomfortable.
Speak No Evil
A family accepts an invitation to visit another family they met while on vacation.
Their hosts gradually become stranger.
And ruder.
And more unsettling.
And you spend half the movie thinking PLEASE JUST LEAVE.
This is one of those movies where social awkwardness becomes horror.
The Babadook
A widowed mother and her son discover a disturbing children’s book about a creature called the Babadook.
Soon, that creature appears to be entering their lives.
Now listen…
I KNOW horror fans love this movie.
It’s practically considered a modern classic.
Personally? I didn’t think it was as amazing as everyone else seems to. 😂
But enough people adore The Babadook that it’s absolutely worth watching and deciding for yourself.
Skinamarink
Two children wake up in the middle of the night and discover that their father is gone.
Then the doors and windows in their house begin disappearing.
This movie is extremely experimental and VERY slow.
A lot of horror fans find it terrifying.
I am not one of those people. 😂
Personally, I’d skip it – but if you like extremely minimal, atmospheric horror where almost nothing is explained, you may love it.
The Pact
After returning to her childhood home following her mother’s death, a woman begins uncovering disturbing secrets connected to both the house and her family.
It’s supernatural, mysterious and slow-burning.
The Cellar
A mother searches for her missing daughter after she disappears inside their new home.
What starts as a missing-person mystery turns into something much stranger and more supernatural.
Horror That’s Actually Fun
Because sometimes I want horror without emotionally ruining my entire evening.
Vicious Fun
A horror-movie critic accidentally stumbles into a support group.
Except it’s a support group for serial killers.
And they think he’s one of them.
This premise is ridiculous in exactly the right way.
Vicious Fun is bloody, funny and a great choice when you want horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Holidays
Holidays is an anthology horror movie built around different holidays throughout the year.
Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween, Christmas…
Turns out basically every holiday can be horrifying.
Some segments are better than others, but that’s part of the fun with horror anthologies.
Influencer
An influencer traveling alone in Thailand meets another traveler who seems friendly and offers to show her around.
Things go VERY wrong from there.
I’ve recommended this one before because I think it’s a hidden gem.
Don’t read too much about it first.
Just watch it.
Late Night with the Devil
Yes, I’m mentioning it again because this one can fit into both supernatural horror AND fun horror.
A disastrous Halloween-night talk-show broadcast involving an allegedly possessed girl?
That’s basically made for spooky season.
Which Horror Movie Should You Watch on Shudder?
