Best Horror Movies on Hulu Right Now (October 2026)

Trying to figure out what horror movie to watch on Hulu tonight? I got you! Hulu actually has a REALLY good horror lineup right now, with everything from creepy supernatural movies and psychological thrillers to slashers, body horror, sci-fi, and some movies that are just plain weird.

And just like with my Netflix horror recommendations, I’m not throwing every horror movie on Hulu into this list. These are the ones I actually recommend checking out.

Whether you want something genuinely scary, something disturbing, or just something fun and bloody to watch during spooky season, here are some of the best horror movies on Hulu right now.

Quick note: Streaming libraries change all the time, and availability can vary by location. This list is based on what’s available on Hulu in the U.S. as of October 2026.

Supernatural, Occult and Haunted Horror

Ghosts, demons, cursed objects, creepy houses and generally terrible supernatural situations.

Let’s start here.

Sinister

A true crime writer moves his family into a house where a horrific murder took place and discovers a box of old home movies in the attic.

Obviously, watching them turns out to be a terrible idea.

Sinister is dark, creepy and has some genuinely unsettling imagery. If you’re looking for something that actually feels scary, this is a great place to start.

Late Night with the Devil

This one has SUCH a fun concept.

It’s presented as footage from a Halloween-night episode of a 1970s late-night talk show, where the host decides to bring an allegedly possessed girl onto the program.

You can imagine how well that goes.

If you like supernatural horror mixed with found footage/mockumentary style filmmaking, definitely check this one out.

The Lazarus Effect

A group of medical researchers develops a serum capable of bringing the dead back to life.

And because this is a horror movie, they actually use it.

Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Donald Glover and Evan Peters are all in this one, and it’s an easy watch if you like science experiments going horribly, horribly wrong.

Books of Blood

Based on Clive Barker’s work, Books of Blood is an anthology horror movie with several interconnected stories involving the supernatural, death and some very disturbing situations.

If you like anthology-style horror where you’re getting several creepy stories instead of one long one, give this a try.

Nosferatu

Now – this isn’t so much scary as… well the story is a classic. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is dark, gothic and VERY atmospheric.

A young man travels to meet the mysterious Count Orlok while his wife back home becomes increasingly haunted by horrifying visions and a growing sense that something terrible is coming.

This is definitely one for a dark, rainy spooky-season night.

Oddity

This was a good one! After her twin sister is murdered, a blind woman with an interest in the occult tries to uncover what really happened.

She also happens to have access to a collection of extremely creepy objects.

Including one VERY unsettling wooden mannequin.

Oddity is eerie, weird and a good pick if you enjoy supernatural mysteries.

Presence

You might not get spooked by this one – but you might enjoy the story. It’s more drama than horror.

A family moves into a new house.

But instead of watching the haunting from the family’s point of view, Presence tells the story from the perspective of whatever is already inside the house.

That’s what makes this one interesting.

It’s less of a traditional haunted-house movie and more of a supernatural mystery with an unusual perspective.

The Sixth Sense

I mean… it’s The Sixth Sense.

If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, I honestly don’t know where you’ve been.

Haley Joel Osment plays a boy who claims he can see dead people, and Bruce Willis plays the child psychologist trying to help him.

Even if you already know the famous twist, it’s still a classic and absolutely worth a rewatch.

Poltergeist

This is the 2015 remake, not the original 1982 Poltergeist.

A family moves into a seemingly perfect suburban home, only to discover that some very malevolent spirits are already there and eventually target their young daughter.

If you’re a fan of the original Poltergeist, that actually makes this one kind of interesting to watch. It’s a modern retelling of the same creepy haunted-house story, so you can see what they changed, what they kept, and how it compares to the classic.

Personally, if you’ve already seen the original, I’d watch this one out of curiosity alone!

Hokum

Adam Scott plays a novelist who travels to a remote inn in Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes.

Then he starts hearing stories about an ancient witch supposedly haunting the inn.

That’s probably the point where I would leave.

But obviously he does not.

This is one of Hulu’s newer horror movies, and if creepy old inns, witches and supernatural mysteries sound good to you, add this one to your list.

Psychological Horror, Mysteries and Movies That Mess With Your Head

Sometimes the scariest part is figuring out what the hell is actually happening.

Heretic

This one had be on edge the whole time. Two young missionaries knock on the wrong door and meet a seemingly friendly man played by Hugh Grant.

That friendliness does not last.

Heretic turns into a tense psychological game involving faith, belief, manipulation and survival.

Hugh Grant playing deeply creepy is also something I didn’t realize I needed.

Longlegs

Honestly this is kind of a slow burn, and it was not my favorite. However, SO many people love it I have to tell you to check it out.

An FBI agent investigates a series of murders that appear to be connected to a mysterious serial killer.

Then things start getting occult.

Longlegs is dark, uncomfortable and definitely one of those movies where the atmosphere is doing a lot of the work.

And Nicolas Cage is… well, Nicolas Cage.

The Invitation

This is the 2022 one starring Nathalie Emmanuel.

After taking a DNA test, a woman discovers relatives she never knew existed and is invited to a lavish wedding in England.

Unfortunately, her newly discovered family has some secrets.

And they are not cute little family secrets.

If you like gothic horror mixed with romance and mystery, this one’s an easy watch.

Run

Sarah Paulson plays a mother who has raised her daughter almost completely isolated from the outside world.

Her daughter eventually begins to suspect that her mother may be hiding something from her.

And she is.

Run is much more thriller than straight-up horror, but it’s tense and keeps moving.

Barbarian

Please do yourself a favor and don’t read too much about Barbarian before watching it.

All I’m going to tell you is a woman arrives at her rental house late at night and discovers that someone else is already staying there.

That’s all I’m going to tell you.

Seriously.

Just watch it.

The Home

Pete Davidson plays a man doing community service at a retirement home where he’s warned to stay away from the mysterious fourth floor.

Naturally, this means we are eventually going to the fourth floor.

The residents and the people running the facility are hiding something, and the deeper he digs, the stranger things get.

Best movie ever? Definitely not – but we found it entertaining!

The Village

An isolated community lives in fear of mysterious creatures believed to inhabit the woods surrounding their village.

Everyone knows the rules.

Don’t go into the woods.

Don’t attract the creatures.

And definitely don’t question too much.

It’s M. Night Shyamalan, so obviously there’s more going on here than it initially appears.

Culture Shock

I liked this one! A young Mexican woman crosses the border into the United States while pursuing the American Dream.

What she finds instead is increasingly strange, surreal and horrifying.

Culture Shock is part of Hulu’s Into the Dark series and mixes horror with some very pointed social commentary.

Slashers, Killers and Survival Horror

No ghosts required.

Sometimes somebody trying to murder you is enough.

Clown in a Cornfield

This one is fun.

There’s a killer clown.

There’s a cornfield.

What more do you need?

A teenager moves to the struggling town of Kettle Springs, where the town’s creepy clown mascot Frendo starts becoming considerably more than just a mascot.

This is a good pick when you want a modern slasher that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Thanksgiving

Eli Roth made a Thanksgiving slasher.

(Of course he did LOL)

After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a killer wearing a John Carver mask begins hunting people in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

It’s bloody, ridiculous and exactly the kind of horror movie you should watch sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving.

If you know Eli Roth’s work, you should know what to expect 🙂

Dangerous Animals

This one combines two things that are already scary separately:

A serial killer.

And sharks.

A surfer is kidnapped by a shark-obsessed killer and trapped on his boat while trying to figure out how to escape before she becomes part of his very disturbing ritual.

If you like survival horror, definitely check this one out.

No Exit

A young woman gets stranded during a snowstorm and takes shelter at a highway rest stop with several strangers.

Then she discovers a kidnapped child locked inside a van outside.

Which means one of the people inside the rest stop is the kidnapper.

This one gets tense FAST.

Also I featured this one on my The Best Horror Movies to Watch on Cold Winter Nights as well.

The X Trilogy

Hulu currently has all three movies in Ti West’s X trilogy, so you could absolutely make a whole movie marathon out of these.

That said…

I definitely think the first two are the strongest.

X

In 1979, a group of young filmmakers rents a farmhouse in rural Texas to make an adult movie.

Their elderly hosts seem strange.

They get considerably stranger.

X is bloody, stylish and one of the better modern slashers.

Pearl

Pearl goes backward in time and tells the story of the woman we met in X when she was young.

Mia Goth is FANTASTIC in this.

It’s colorful, strange, disturbing and completely different in tone from X, which is part of what makes the two movies so fun to watch together.

This one is my favorite of the trilogy.

MaXXXine

The trilogy finishes with Maxine trying to become a legitimate actress in 1980s Hollywood while a killer stalks women around Los Angeles.

And look…

MaXXXine is on Hulu too.

But IMO it is not nearly as good as X or Pearl.

If you’re watching the whole trilogy, obviously finish it. But if you only have time for one or two, I’m choosing X and Pearl every time.

Sci-Fi, Aliens and Creature Horror

Aliens, experiments and things that definitely aren’t human.

Life

Scientists aboard the International Space Station discover evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Exciting!

Except the life-form starts growing.

And adapting.

And killing everybody.

Not so exciting anymore.

If you like Alien-style space horror, Life is absolutely worth watching.

No One Will Save You

Wow – this was my favorite movie that came out that year (2023).

A young woman living alone suddenly discovers that aliens have invaded her home.

One of the coolest things about No One Will Save You is how little dialogue there is.

Kaitlyn Dever basically has to carry the movie through performance alone, and the result is a really fun combination of alien invasion movie and psychological horror.

Signs

Another M. Night Shyamalan movie! And one of the better ones too.

Mel Gibson plays a former priest living on a farm with his family when enormous crop circles begin appearing in their fields.

Then strange things start happening around the world.

Signs is one of those movies that’s part alien invasion movie, part family drama and part creepy slow-burn horror.

And yes, THAT scene still gets me.

The Fly

A classic. So if you somehow missed this one, here’s your chance to check it out.

Jeff Goldblum plays a scientist experimenting with teleportation who accidentally combines his DNA with a fly.

Things deteriorate from there.

Literally.

David Cronenberg’s The Fly is a classic sci-fi horror movie and also some seriously gross body horror.

Body Horror, Disturbing Stuff and Movies That Get WEIRD

If you’re squeamish…

Maybe don’t start here.

Fresh

Modern dating is already horrifying enough.

Then there’s Fresh.

A woman meets a seemingly charming guy and thinks she may have finally found someone worth dating.

She has not.

Sebastian Stan is extremely entertaining in this, and I strongly recommend going in without reading too much about what happens next.

I literally made my then-boyfriend, now-husband watch this with me on my birthday and was worried he was judging me. But it was really good!

Tentacles

A young couple falls very quickly into an intense new relationship.

Then their intimacy begins transforming into something much stranger and more horrifying.

This Hulu original starts off like a romance and gradually turns into psychosexual body horror.

Definitely one of the stranger movies on this list.

Hereditary

After the death of her mother, a woman and her family begin uncovering disturbing secrets about their family’s history.

Then everything starts falling apart.

Hereditary is dark, uncomfortable and emotionally brutal.

Toni Collette is incredible, and if you want one of those movies that leaves you sitting there afterward thinking, “Well… that was upsetting,” here you go.

I honestly probably won’t watch this again because I don’t think I need that feeling again lol

Midsommar

A grieving woman travels to Sweden with her boyfriend and his friends to attend a remote midsummer festival.

The location is beautiful.

The people seem friendly.

The sun is shining.

And somehow the entire thing still feels deeply wrong.

Midsommar is basically proof that horror does not need darkness to be terrifying.

I absolutely LOVE this one btw. So much I dressed up as the main character at DragonCon one year 🙂

The Ugly Stepsister

Imagine Cinderella as a gruesome body-horror movie.

That’s basically what you’re getting here.

A young woman becomes increasingly desperate to transform herself into the ideal beauty so she can win the prince’s affection.

And the lengths she goes to are… unpleasant.

This one is definitely not for anyone who gets squeamish easily.

The Substance

Aging TV star Elisabeth Sparkle discovers a mysterious substance that allows her to create a younger, supposedly “better” version of herself.

There are rules.

She does not follow them.

Things become VERY gross.

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are fantastic, and if you like body horror, The Substance should absolutely be on your list.

Together

Dave Franco and Alison Brie play a longtime couple who move to the countryside hoping for a fresh start.

Instead, they encounter a mysterious force that begins affecting both their relationship…

and their bodies.

If relationship problems weren’t already horrifying enough, Together makes them literal body horror.

Stopmotion

A stop-motion animator becomes increasingly consumed by the disturbing movie she’s creating.

Eventually, the line between her art and reality starts becoming very blurry.

The stop-motion imagery itself makes this one especially creepy.

It’s weird, uncomfortable and definitely worth checking out if you like artsy psychological/body horror.

Horror That’s Actually Fun

Sometimes I don’t want to be traumatized.

Sometimes I want murder and monsters but also want to have fun.

The Monkey

Twin brothers discover a creepy wind-up monkey that appears to cause horrific deaths whenever it plays.

Years later, the monkey comes back.

And so do the deaths.

The Monkey is based on a Stephen King story and directed by Osgood Perkins, but unlike Longlegs, this one leans HARD into dark comedy and ridiculous gore.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

Grace is back!

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come continues the story from the first Ready or Not, with Samara Weaving returning alongside Kathryn Newton and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

If you liked the combination of wealthy psychos, deadly games and dark comedy in the original, this is an obvious watch.

And yes — watch the first movie first. It’s available on Netflix right now!

Send Help

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien survive a plane crash.

Unfortunately, surviving the crash is only the beginning.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Send Help mixes survival horror with dark comedy and puts two people who already have a complicated relationship into an extremely bad situation.

Thanksgiving

Yes, I already mentioned this one in the slasher section.

But it’s also FUN.

If your idea of a good time involves an absurd holiday-themed killer and lots of gore, this absolutely works as a horror-comedy night too.

Which Horror Movie Should You Watch on Hulu?

Still can’t decide?

Here’s where I’d start:

If you want something actually creepy: Sinister or Oddity

If you want supernatural horror: Late Night with the Devil or Hokum

If you want psychological horror: Longlegs or Heretic

If you want a slasher: X, Thanksgiving or Clown in a Cornfield

If you want sci-fi horror: Life, Signs or No One Will Save You

If you want body horror: The Substance, The Fly or The Ugly Stepsister

If you want something disturbing: Hereditary or Midsommar

If you want something fun: The Monkey, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come or Send Help

If you want a hidden gem: Oddity, Culture Shock, Stopmotion or No Exit

If you want a horror movie date night: Nosferatu, Together or The Invitation

More Horror Movies to Watch

Hulu changes its movie library pretty regularly, so I’ll keep updating this list as new horror movies arrive and others disappear.
